2nd Oldest Gathering in the Country
2015 Inductee to the Montana Cowboy Hall of Fame!
Welcome everyone to the 32nd Annual Montana Cowboy Poetry Gathering and Western Music Rendezvous, a signature event held in August in Lewistown, Montana. We’re glad you’re here! Montana Cowboy Poetry Gathering is the 2nd oldest cowboy poetry gathering in the country, just one year behind the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering in Elko, Nevada! The mission of Montana Cowboy Poetry Gathering is: “…to preserve and celebrate the history, heritage and values of the American cowboy in the upper Rocky Mountain west.”
For the 2017 Gathering, we are proud to announce the headlining performer, Dave Stamey. Cowboys and Indians Magazine has called him “the Charley Russell of Western Music.” Dave Stamey has been a cowboy, a mule packer, a dude wrangler, and is now one of the most popular Western entertainers working today.
Dave has been twice voted Entertainer of the Year, three times Male Performer of the Year and twice Songwriter of the Year by the Western Music Association, and received the Will Rogers Award from the Academy of Western Artists. He’s delighted audiences in fourteen states, and finds that he prefers this to being stomped by angry horses.
Along with Dave, special guest, Mary Kaye will be joining us at the 2017 Gathering. An internationally acclaimed and multiple award winning singer-songwriter, Mary Kay tours extensively with her unique brand of western roots music. She is a native born Texan and as a young woman ventured off to Utah where she "married her a cowboy.”
Mary Kaye's family has deep western roots that go back six generations. Mary Kaye now resides in the small western town of Escalante, a 140 year old small ranching community in southern Utah, where her large family is involved in cowboying, horse training, and all things Western. She has been married to her husband Brad for 30 years, they have ten children. Her distinguished songwriting and vocal abilities combined with her magnetic stage presence, beautiful guitar playing, and fun sense of humor make for a memorable performance.
Tickets for this one-of-a-kind show will go on sale Friday, November 25, 2016. We look forward to seeing you in Lewistown, and thank you for joining all of us for this joyous time of listening, humming along, honoring those who came before us and taking inspiration from them into our daily lives! We hope you enjoy every minute of your “Keepin’ It Cowboy,” Montana Cowboy Poetry Gathering experience.
